Let me set the scene. We were touring with a well-known international artist. This was a big tour, hitting all the key cities around Australia. We were pumped. Fast forward to mid tour on date number 6. We were playing Wollongong. Gig went well, made some fans, sold some merch, all good!

However, we had yet to have “the night” on the tour yet. This is what I refer to as a night that’s so full of shenanigans. The kind of night you reflect on when you're old and wise, and think yeah I did alright ya know?

Ok, gig done, gear packed, everyone’s feeling great. Get some beverages and try figure out what’s next. Everything’s closed. Ok, so what now? hit the beach? I recall this being suggested almost sarcastically. But to me, this sounded like the best plan possible. Ok, this is where the story is feeling epic. We are in a city we had never been to with amazing beaches all around. We’ve been locked in a tiny van for thousands of Kilometres that feels like a shoe box at this point. Let’s do it.

We get there and I immediately try to encourage the rest of the bands to jump in the water with me. I managed to win over 3 members out of 15, I was happy with that. We jump in, completely unprepared, no towels or anything. Mind you, it’s around 1am and dark, with a pretty intense swell. We had around a 5-minute dip and return to try dry off. We hang, chat, share stories about life and music. In this moment, we had to pinch ourselves, realising how lucky we are to be doing this with such incredible people.

After cultivating friendships with people online for over a decade, it's crazy to see how all my opportunities have sprung from those deep and true connections. This story starts 11 years ago when I met my first-ever internet friend, a musician who goes by the name GrooveCube. Things were quite different back then. Music was something we were both really lucky to have in our lives, but never did we think it would take us anywhere as we were just kids with some fortunate internet access.

One of the first times I ever got to travel for a show was actually thanks to an invite from GrooveCube. He wanted me to come play the Baltimore Soundstage in Maryland. It was only two days prior to the Friday night show when I got the invite, and I was currently sitting 2600 miles away from the venue. With 0 hesitation though, It was an immediate yes from my end, as I canceled all of my plans for the weekend.

Before I knew it, I was playing in front of a sold-out, 1000-person crowd, with the biggest rush I've ever had coursing through my entire body.  It was surreal to think that my best friend of 11 years and I had gone from being some nerdy kids on the internet to actually being the people we've always dreamt of being. It was a moment that made me realize anything is possible and that this wouldn't just be a one-off experience.

We get back around 2AM, my flight leaves in just a few hours so we stay up all night and reminisce on some really classic moments we've shared over the years. I board the airplane, and find myself back in Los Angeles, only to be immediately behind the DJ decks again that same night playing in Downtown LA.

Consistently playing shows around the world is the only dream I ever had as a kid. If you asked me a year ago, I'd say it was next to impossible to get booked without a really good agent. But in only a few short months, I've played music in too many cities to count. And if you told me that I'd never see a dime from any of it, I still wouldn't have missed one of them. After cultivating friendships with people online for over a decade, it's crazy to see how all my opportunities have sprung from those deep and true connections.
