The Collection - PRESHOW RITUALS
Join us as The Collection tells you about what they do before taking the stage.
In this Preshow Rituals segment, the alternative pop band, The Collection, reveals what they do before taking the stage. You can check out the rituals below:
I used to not care much about the pre-show space; I’d share some beers with friends and get hyped up on caffeine and just do my thing. But the longer I’ve done this, and the more introverted I’ve become, I’ve realized how important it is to really protect my emotional space before a show so that I can give the best performance possible every single night.
The first thing I try to do is center myself - put my phone away, stretch, or meditate if I’m in an anxious space. Then I do a full vocal warmup - at least 10-15 minutes if not longer. After that, the band gets together and does warmups together so we can get our harmonies and group vocal parts right.
Then, if the band needs a pump-up, we put on the Space Jam theme song and dance around the room together. It always gets us so hyped! After all of that, we stand in a circle, take a few deep breaths together, and put our hands in the middle like a sports team and make up a chant on the spot that we think is funny from the day.
The whole process leads us to a great amount of centeredness and feeling hyped up to a deliver an energetic and, hopefully, authentic and honest show.
