The Fame Riot – PRESHOW RITUALS

In this Preshow Rituals segment, the alt pop band, The Fame Riot, share what they do before every show. You can check out their rituals, after the break.

Shazam: It can be difficult to keep a strict ritual during tours, but it usually involves copious amounts of tea with honey and cayenne, vocal warm ups for about 20 minutes before the set, getting naked and icing my body after a hot shower, dancing around naked before the set – definitely in front of the other bands in the green room! – and I usually inhale some essential oils. My hair is an all day process: shower, put my hair in tight bun or braids, let air dry, hairspray, undo braids, backcomb, poof, glitter and hairspray.

We pay close attention to our wardrobe as well. Endless pairing of outfit after outfit, scarf after scarf, layers and layers of tights. Finally, once I have come to a place of satisfaction, I strut (humbly) over to Lizard, look deeply into his eyes, and tell him, “You’re the best.” Because he is!

Liz: Yes, very much of what Shazam described. Although, my pre-show ritual is slightly more simplified. I drink my throat coat tea, rub and inhale my essential oils (and herbs), then begin contorting my body into various stretches and explorations of physical space… all while humming deeply in my chest, similar to the sound of a transgalactic space panther. After that, it’s time to suit up and snuggle with Shazam until showtime!
