In this Tour Tips segment, the rock ‘n roll band, The New Pacific, give you their tips for being on tour. You can check out the feature, after the break.
1. Respect your body:
Just because there’s an endless supply of new places to eat / drink etc doesn’t mean you have to indulge every night. Make healthy choices and use all the downtime to take care of your body. I’ll oftentimes run before shows. It’s a great way to see a new city and get your head in a solid place before the gig. If any of your tour-bros run, its a great way to stay in shape and challenge each other.
2. Respect your tour-mates:
Whether its bandmates or crew, you have to keep in mind this is your family. As with any good family vacation, friction is bound to flare up from time to time (almost always over simple miscommunications) but you have to remember that you’re all there for the same reason: To put on a great show and connect people with your music. Encouraging each other and keeping the vibe positive keeps the tour moving and fun. Respect goes a long way.
3. Respect your mind:
Tour can be an opportunity to grow or shrink as a person. Use all of that downtime as an opportunity to expand your mind. There are countless audiobooks on Audible.com that will let you explore just about anything you’d like to learn more about. On those long night drives learn more about deep space travel, the science of music or listen through classic fiction. You’ll be surprised how much it passes otherwise stale time.
4. Respect the show:
The show. It’s the reason you’re all there. The audience. The bands / crew, etc. Whether there’s 10 people or 1000 people, respect the audience and put 110% into the show and leave it all on stage. These folks have taken time out of their lives to celebrate music with you and there’s a good chance you might not see them again for months at a time, so make it worth it. Turn it up and leave them wanting more.
5. Respect the journey:
Tour can be simultaneously best of times and incredibly taxing, but you’re out there making it happen. It seems so simple, but oftentimes artists can be so caught up in the minutia of day to day logistics that we forget how incredible of an opportunity it is for us to be meeting new people and seeing new things every night. Pull over, take photos, make an effort to get out of the van and meet new people. This is your shot, put in the work and make the ride unforgettable.
