The Scutches – 4th ROAD BLOG from their “Summer Tour 2012”

The Scutches have been keep all of you filled in while they are on the summer tour. This is the 4th and final entry in the series. You an read it after the break.

We made it to Ohio and we’re greeted by Kevin and Bart of the Bricktops. We hung out at Kevin’s for an hour or so before we went to get some food. Bart suggested that us New Yorkers had to try some Ohio/Mid-West style pizza. We had the Chicago style the day before so, we were a little apprehensive. Either way we tried it and it was pretty good. They must not have many vegetarians in Ohio because Vin’s “veggie sub” came with meat 3 times. After they finally got Vin’s order correct, we ate and had to head to the venue for the nights show.

We followed Kevin and Bart to a small town main street style area of Lima, Ohio. You could almost hear the record scratch when we walked into the venue. It didn’t seem like a place we belonged. We set up and played our set and were followed by the Bricktops, who play a cover of “Sleep Around Sue”. The people it that town were so welcoming and supportive that we soon learned we were wrong about our first impression. The owner of the venue looked like the stage manager for The Allman Brothers Band, but he loved us and invited us back anytime. It’s always great to see how nice people are in other parts of the country, and sometimes surprising to us New Yorkers.

We then headed back to Kevin’s house to have some beers, laughs, and to crash. The next morning Kevin made us some killer coffee, and we were on our way to Gettysburg, PA to play a late afternoon set in a park. We played just outside of the historical section of Gettysburg, the high humidity and temperature in the high 90’s made it a tough one. We ended up having to cut the set a little short as we were running out of daylight. We packed up our gear and headed to Philadelphia for the night to crash.

Our bass player Rob (a.k.a. Rob Shit of Bucket Flush) lives in Philly so we dropped him off at home while Vin and Rich headed to our friend Jane’s. Jane is the awesome drummer from the Slot Cars, she also played gigs with Vin on other tours. Jane met us after she had rehearsal with her band, with cymbal bags, snare drum cases, and bags of groceries for us. She led us into her apartment and had sleeping quarters, and food all set up for us. Jane is probably the nicest most sincere person in the world. The kind words and support she showed us is heart warming. If you ever get the chance to see Jane, do it!

We were hit with some heavy rain the next day in Philly. Rob stayed at his house and Vin and Rich hung by Jane’s apartment for most of the day. That night we played a show at the Farm in Philly. We played with Taco Joint, and Bucket Flush. It was a real fun show, and those bands are awesome. That night we crashed at Jane’s, again. The next morning Jane took us for a great breakfast in which she insisted she pay for, thanks again Jane! We left Janie to go meet up with Rob and hang around Philly for most of the day.

We decided to head back up to New York to crash at Rich’s house, often referred to as the Scutches rehearsal space, before our set at the Punk Island festival the next day. We hit some major traffic on the Belt Parkway before finally stopping at a diner for food, then 7-11 for beers. Crashed at Rich’s and the next day headed to Manhattan to catch the ferry to Governors Island, NY. The weather was perfect for an outdoor show. We got to Governors Island and were greeted by the folks who ran the Punk Island festival. Justine was running the Guitar Center main stage and told us our time slot for the gig. There were some really cool bands and folks there at the festival.

There will be one more update/re-cap of the tour in the next few days. As always find us on Facebook (facebook.com/theScutches) Twitter (twitter.com/theScutches) and YouTube (youtube.com/theScutchesOfficial).
