Before a show, I’m usually really nervous and I can’t sleep or eat properly for days. I’ve had these feeling as long as I can remember, even though I’ve been on stage many times. Who knows, maybe one day this nervousness will disappear out of the blue. When the day finally arrives, I try to get something in my system. Usually, smoothies or fresh fruit, because it’s easy to eat and gives me the right kind of energy.
I always make a thermos with hot water, lemon, and a little ginger, just so I’m prepared for anything and to warm up my throat. A must is also my little glass tube that I use for warming up my voice. That is the key, for my voice being on fleek. I always try to get ready in time with hair, makeup, and warm-ups so I don’t need to be stressed. Since I’m already nervous, stressing about other things makes everything so much worse. Of course, it’s impossible to control everything, but I want to make sure the things I actually can control run as smooth as they can before a gig. Right before going on stage, I listen to music to get motivated. Or I just find I quiet place that I can be alone for a while, it depends on the day and how I’m feeling. I try not to think of the songs and the lyrics so much before I go on stage, because I tend to forget things when I overthink it. So that’s my pre-show ritual, which I like to do every single time I perform. I like routines, and this is one of them.
