I grew up in the 70s and the music of that era definitely seeded and inspired the music I write and play today. Imagine driving on a twisty country road in Indiana in a 1975 candy-apple red Chevy Camaro with black leather bucket seats, air shocks, wolf whistle, CB radio, and listening to the Eagles’ “Take It Easy” on an 8-track tape player. Wherever I was going, I was listening to my collection of music – The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Jackson Browne, Doobie Brothers, CCR, Jim Croce, and many others. These albums became the soundtrack of my life and I still listen to them today. There are so many artists and bands I’d choose as my ultimate tour lineup but I’ll narrow them down to the following:
Eagles – I grew up on the Eagles in the 70s and have seen them in concert. Their tight rhythm and sparkle of acoustic guitars, electric guitars on the edge of breakup, country-rock influence, and laid-back optimistic lyrics is a signature sound I’m chasing in my head when writing and producing my own music. I really love that sound.
Tedeschi Trucks – I saw them in concert at the Durham DPAC a few years ago and they totally blew me away! Soulful blues rock full of emotion and possibly the best concert I’ve ever heard.
Jackson Browne – His music is made of thoughtful, meaningful lyrics and an organic sound. “Doctor My Eyes”, “These Days”, “Running on Empty”, and “Sky Blue and Black” are a few of my favorites.
Keep up with him on Facebook, Instagram and his website.
