1. Be nice. Say thank you — to your bandmates, your crew, the staff at each venue, the other bands. Notice other peoples’ talents and skills, and genuinely compliment them. Create a good vibe everywhere you go.

2. Play every show like it’s the last show you’ll ever play. Treat each audience like they’re your favorite one ever.

3. On tour you spend the majority of your time in the bus, so find a way to make good use of it. Playing video games or napping endlessly may sound nice at first but can lead to you feeling majorly depressed if that’s all you’re doing day in and day out. Find the best podcasts that help you learn and feel inspired, study up on your favorite bands’ discographies, read books on music and business. Send postcards and thank you cards to your friends and family and network. WRITE.

4. Take advantage of the rad opportunity you have to travel. Go out and explore the cities you visit in every spare moment you have. Take in the culture of each new city and make new friends everywhere you go.

5. Tour with your lover if you can. It makes everything better.
