1. MAKE SURE YOU’VE GOT ENOUGH MUSIC FOR THE BUS
So many times while on tour I’ve found myself with only 5 CDs and limited memory on our phones to download more Spotify songs. When you’re on a 7-hour car journey from Germany to Prague..you shouldn’t be listening to the same 20 songs on repeat! Always download some new songs after a show and replace the old ones. I think we listened to last War on Drugs album about 10 times in a row..I didn’t mind but I think my tour buds weren’t impressed.
2. THE RIDER IS YOUR FRIEND. DON’T NEGLECT IT
I often make the mistake of leaving my rider at the venue after the gig and then pay about £10 the next day to buy the same thing at a service station. Also, make sure your rider has everything you would possibly need not just M&Ms.
3. TREAT YOURSELF TO A NICE HOTEL EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE
Everyone needs to get some good sleep once in a while..you can’t always rely on that if you don’t have your own room and a nice bed! If you’re doing a 20 date tour you should treat yourself to it! It’s like having a shower at a festival..it’s good for the soul!
4. STAY HEALTHY
I never really drink on tour and the reason is because I’m not sure I would be able to put on the best possible show if I did..it’s important that you’re 100% for the shows! People come out to see you play and they shouldn’t expect anything less than that. I try to eat well and get as much rest in between soundcheck & the show..it may sound boring but if you’re touring for a long time it will take its toll on your body.
5. EXPLORE ON TOUR
Try and take some time to see more than the venue..it’s always good for the gig aswell if you’ve got a feel for the city and got something to say about the place your playing! Plus it’s the best part of touring..my favourite thing is hunting out the local record stores!
