When you come to a Two Man Advantage show, you will see us in street clothes setting up our amps, tuning up our guitars, arranging our drums, and checking our mics. You’ll then see us walk off the stage and reappear about five minutes later, in our team jerseys, and hopefully ready to destroy you. Hopefully, there’s some dramatic effect to the way we take the stage, but there’s a practicality to it as well.
Whether it’s kids playing on a frozen pond, never-beens playing in an adult beer league at 1:00 in the morning on a Monday night, or the elites playing at the highest of levels, what you can expect to see at a game is a combination of grace and finesse with speed and aggression – weaved together by teamwork. You might see some of the most skilled skating, followed by a beautiful pass leading to a goal that had to be threaded through several bodies, including a heavily padded goaltender whose only job is to stop you. You might also see a couple of players pound the absolute shit out of each other. In the end, the teams come together for a handshake and maybe a beer or two at the closest watering hole.
The dirty little secret is that we’re not a hockey team playing punk rock. We’re a punk band paying homage to the greatest sport on Earth. Those five minutes between setting up our stuff and taking the stage is our zen moment. Up to that point in the night, we may have been scattered here, there, and everywhere. If the show goes as it should, it’s a loud, beer-soaked typhoon of energy from both band and crowd that is both aggressive and fun. But in those few minutes in between – that time is ours. It’s the time to put aside everything else and put our heads together into sharp focus – ready for the 40 minutes ahead of us. It’s where we have our huddle and, if you’ve ever been in the “locker room” prior to “game time”, maybe you’ve even been invited to be a part of it. It’s the time for some words of wisdom from the Coach, it’s the time where we figuratively sharpen our blades, it’s the time where we transform into something larger than ourselves. It’s the time we become the TWO MAN ADVANTAGE!
