War On Women – ROAD BLOG #3 from “Failed States European Tour 2013″

War On Women just finished up the “Failed States European Tour 2013” with Propagandhi, Comeback Kid and Shai Hulud. While they were on this tour, they wrote a Road Blog for us. You can check out their third and final update, after the break.

Portion from Brooks (Guitarist): My favorite thing about this tour was seeing four of my friends from Baltimore take the stage with me every night and rise to the occasion. Whether the crowd seemed to be into our show or not, whether we had sore backs or knees or lungs, the members of my band gave it all they had. It wasn’t easy knowing that members of Propagandhi and Shai Hulud were standing in the wings, but we did what we went to do and I am proud of our shows. Thanks again Shawna, Nancy, Evan and Rusty!
PS My second favorite part of the tour was vegan catering!

Portion from Shawna (Vocals):  My favorite show might have been in Munich, Germany at Backstage. All the bands were sharing one big green room, weather was nice, earlier in the day we visited some Greek statue museums and got coffee at a vegan cafe. The food at the club was great, there was outdoor seating to enjoy the weather and people watch as hundreds of Germans showed up to watch the big soccer match on big outdoor screens around the venue.
Superfluous stuff aside, we played a killer set. Even though I thought I might be coming down with something right before heading out, adrenaline took over, there were no fuck ups, the audience was super receptive and bought a lot of merch, all despite the stereotype (proven in other cities) that Germans will watch your show stone-faced. It might sound trite, but I really have enjoyed meeting and spending time with everyone on the tour. All the other touring I’ve done with other bands (AVEC, Fair Verona, Jaabs) has either been on our own or maybe one other band for a few shows, so to experience some quality time with and get some inside jokes going with two other bands and their crew over three weeks has been an incredible experience.

Shawna Potter is the front person of War On Women, a feminist hardcore punk band from Baltimore, MD USA. She also runs the Baltimore chapter of Hollaback!, is ordained to perform wedding ceremonies, and runs an amp and guitar repair shop with Brooks Harlan, who plays guitar in War On Women and bass in Office of Future Plans.

Keep up with the band on Facebook and Twitter!
