YONAS – PRESHOW RITUALS

In this Preshow Rituals segment, the hip hop artist, YONAS, shares what he does before every show. You can check out his rituals, after the break.

Before every show, I first take some time to reflect on how blessed I am to be playing in front of any crowd let alone people who know the lyrics to my music and sing them back to me. Then I proceed to take 3 shots of gin :)

My goal at every show is to provide an electric energy. I want people to watch me perform and feel something. Experience something larger than life! I usually hang out backstage with my DJ, my tour crew, and sometimes friends (depending on the city) and the vibe is fun and loose. We’re not about to throw a concert, we’re about to rock a party. 5 minutes before set time, I fully zone in, and hang by myself next to the stage entrance. 1 Minute to stage time my DJ begins to play a mashup of Ludacris’s “Stand Up” while I speak from backstage. The crowd hears my voice for the first time and begins to cheer in anticipation. My DJ stops the record… “Y’all ready?!?!” I run out, we drop the intro to my first song… it’s on!
