In this Tour Tips segment, the rock band, Young Medicine, share their tips for being on the road. You can check out their advice, after the break.
Tip #1: You wanna go on tour? Are you insane?! If sleeping in a van, eating endless fast food, and possibly trying to figure out how to save your broken gear or vehicles while you’re several states away from home in the middle of nowhere sounds like a grand time, then you just might be crazy enough to make it out on the road. In that case, you’re gonna have to break our first
“Tour Tip”: don’t go on tour
Tip #2: Always check the bathrooms for toilet paper. Always. Cardinal rule. Being stuck in a shoddy un-stocked truck stop can ruin even the most thrilling of tours so get in the habit of investigating your surroundings, always…BEFORE, not after.
Tip #3: It’s no secret that musicians like pizza, in fact, there are some entire genres and bands that dedicate their creative endeavors in the name of a delicious slice. However, this is easily a case of “be careful what you wish for” as you will not be able to escape the cheesy Italian pie when you’re on the road. Friends will feed you pizza, promoters will feed you pizza, other bands will feed you pizza, by the time you return home you’ll never want to touch the stuff again. Do yourself a favor and explore all the unique local eateries wherever you go, you won’t see half of ’em again anyways.
Tip #4: Truck stops are home to all kinds of wild human specimens, both friendly and otherwise. Family vacationers and burly truck drivers will often join you in line to the bathroom but if you ever start to hear the roar of a hundred engines looming on the horizon, it’s time to get out. Loud obnoxious bikers will arrive in large groups, descending upon the oasis-like a swarm of flies to a carcass… skinny jeans are their favorite thing to jeer at, and we’re all musicians here, so, you know… avoid at all costs.
Tip #5: Going on tour just might be the most fun you can have while simultaneously getting all your hopes and dreams crushed, so don’t forget it’s all about doing what you love and having a great time with your bandmates….even when stranded with no toilet paper and cell signal.
