Before our sets we typically smudge the green room with sage, don our ceremonial robes, and perform a banishing ritual to clear the venue of unwanted presences before placing a ritual offering of wine and jazz cigarettes upon the altar for Enochian spirit entities which shall go unnamed here. Just kidding, although wacky tobaccy and booze are often present backstage. I usually try to drink a bunch of water and stretch in the hours leading up to the show, as I have gotten old and fat, and will fail miserably if I’m not warmed up and hydrated. We’re pretty active onstage for two relatively out-of-shape dudes, so we end up sweating a lot under the stage lights, and would be pretty boned if we weren’t already warmed up and hydrated. Joe will typically get his feet moving & work on practice patters so we’re already warmed up by the time we take the stage, and I typically do some hand and arm stretches to avoid hand cramping on stage. We both usually drink on stage, which is helpful for any nerves, but we try to remain relatively sober throughout the night so we don’t come off as another band of assholes who can’t hold it together long enough to perform their own music.
