Roam – CRAZY TOUR STORIES

In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, the pop punk band, Roam, talk about some crazy moments from touring. You can check out the feature, after the break.

Alex Costello –
We were doing our first UK headliner in July 2014 and we were in Southampton. We went out to a club with the promoter of the show we had just played and Charlie spent the whole night buying quadruple vodkas and pouring them into pint glasses. Needless to say, he got drunk very quickly and so we had to carry him home to the promoters house where he passed out at the bottom of the stairs after snapping a banister. We started getting ready for bed and suddenly we heard the promoter shouting “no Charlie”. We ran downstairs to where we left him to find him pissing all over the hallway carpet. The promoter then threw Charlie’s t-shirt onto the floor in an attempt to catch the golden stream. Charlie then passed out on the piss-soaked t-shirt before denying the whole event even happened. He then began sucking the t-shirt to prove he hadn’t done it. He sobered up later and realised his mistake.

Matt Roskilly –
A kind of funny but also, at the time, a REALLY not funny tour story was the time we visited mainland Europe with the Enter Shikari boys. The night before we were due to leave, we were all in a group chat running over what not to forget, to which Costello replied: “I can’t find my passport”. At first, we all kind of shrugged it off and assumed he would find it, but to cut a long story short we ended up playing the first three dates of the tour without our lead singer. Alex Adam took up Costello’s lead vocal duties, on top of his own set of lead vocals. Thankfully, Costello got a new passport in time to play Slovenia with us. He surprised us by getting Shikari’s tour manager Keith to lure us into a room, pretending one of us had done a poo on their dressing room floor (which we weren’t really sure how we were going to deny…) and Costello then jumped out from behind a door and freaked us all out. Looking back, it was kind of fun challenging ourselves to play a set without our singer, but at the time, it was certainly a stressful situation.
