What a way to spend a Friday night. Taking Back Sunday’s Spring tour with Letlive. and The Menzingers came to Chicago Friday night to the Riviera Theater.
The Menzingers who opened the show were really great. They put on an amazing show and I would love to see them again. If you’ve never heard of them, check out their songs “Where your heartache exists”, “Casey”, and “I don’t wanna be an asshole anymore”. Trust me you won’t be disappointed. Before long you’ll be catching yourself buying tickets to their next show. After the show at The Riv, they played another not so secret show at Chop Shop.

After them was Letlive.. Watching Letlive. perform live is always a treat. There always seems to be no limit as to what Letlive. will do especially their frontman, Jason Butler. Majority of their time on stage was spent off stage. In fact at one point Butler, was on the outside of the balcony, and yes I mean on the balcony and not in the balcony, he was scaling across it to the other side. The other members could be seen jumping from speakers. From past performances, I know I can always expect an inspirational speech from Butler. What I love though is that his speeches are never the same. He makes me feel like he could run for President and he’ll win and change the world. Butler just has such a great stage performance and really gives all his energy during a show. Calling for circle pits and wanting Chicago to show him that punk rock isn’t dead, a fan even got onstage and was able to sing part of a song with him. Watch Letlive. perform once and you’ll be hooked to just seeing them live even if the music doesn’t appeal to you. Give a listen to “Muther”, “Pheromone Cvlt”, and ” Younger” to get a taste of them.
Taking Back Sunday photos:
Closing the night was Taking Back Sunday. I feel that Taking Back Sunday is just one of those bands that over the years have changed their music style but have stayed true their fans. I don’t think they have made an album I didn’t like, but they have grown with their music and fan base. Whether you have been there since Tell All Your Friends or just joining us now, seeing Taking Back Sunday has something for everyone. With a new release of their last album, The Complete Recordings: Happiness, this one includes b-sides and acoustic versions of songs. With many albums to choose songs to play from they definitely make sure to play a variety of songs to please every fan. Adam doing his signature move, swinging his mic around never gets old. It’s always a pleasure to see them live and enjoy the show with others who are singing along and giving the same energy back that the band is giving. They are a band that I love to see how far they’ve come and am glad they are still touring and making albums.
If you haven’t seen them live before, this would be a great tour to go to. Not only for them but for the other great bands on the bill as well!
