Saturday, Aug. 29: Knoxville, TN, tonight at Open Chord Music. Sound was on point, opening bands killed it, and Lost Element rejoined us back on the tour. The venue was like a School of Rock/music store/bar/live music venue. Always fun to play to an all-ages crowd, and cool to see young people digging guitar – oriented rock ‘n’ roll instead of all the crap on the radio these days.
Sunday, Aug. 30: Raleigh, NC, tonight at Cat’s Cradle. The last few days have been long drives, pretty hot and boring, really excited to be getting up to Baltimore, Philly, and NYC soon , though. We played with Richard Bacchus & The Luckiest Girls, super – nice band and awesome musicians. Richard plays with one of Joey’s favorite bands, D Generation.
Monday, Aug. 31: Hit the road early and stopped in D.C. to check out the White House and Lincoln Memorial. Got to Baltimore around 10 and met up with Jamie, who we were staying with. Her friend owns Holy Frijoles, the bar across the street, so we went over there for some after – hours drinks and pinball. Went back to her place, and drank whiskey and listened to records till the sun came up.
Tuesday, Sept. 1: Spent the day doing laundry and chillin’ with the a/c , super – hot , so we hid out till it cooled down at night and went to load in at Otto Bar. Tonight we played with our buddies The Ravagers. We played with them a few times in Portland and they always kill it with a high – energy rock ‘n’ roll show. We all went to Rocket to Venus afterward, and at last call Tron bought me a snifter of tequila for my birthday; must’ve been six shots in there. Needless to say, the rest of the night was a bit hazy.
Wednesday, Sept. 2: We had two shows today in Philly, one all – age early show we played at 7:30 p.m., and then we went to The Barbary for the late show with our buddies The Posers. I met Johnny and Rory a few months back in Portland when they were in town for the Terry and Louie show.
Thursday, Sept. 3: Hit up downtown Philly today. Brian and Victor went to a museum of medical anomalies called Mütter, I skated around downtown, and Joey and Ray checked out record stores. We checked out the Liberty Bell and while we were waiting for Rory we started playing songs on the acoustic in front of the van with shakers. It turned into a full – on busking session, and we made 25 bucks before heading back to Rory’s to kick it and listen to records.
Friday, Sept. 4: NYC playing at Mercury Lounge in Manhattan tonight. Hit up Trash and Vaudeville, then met up with some old friends from Chicago. Kicked it with our buddies in Wyldlife. Really good show. Packed. Had an after – party at Manitobas, where our friend LeeAnn works, kept drinking there till 4 a.m. and then headed back to my friends in Spanish Harlem to crash.
Saturday, Sept. 5: NYC day 2 kicked it around Spanish Harlem most the day, getting food and checking out the neighborhood. They got pimp suit stores on every block, reminds me of Humboldt Park in Chicago. Drove down to Brooklyn and I skated over to get tattooed by my buddy Chris Flores at All Hail Tattoo. Made it back just in time to catch the first band before we went on. We played with Alan Merrill from Arrows ‘ new band. For those who don’t know, this guy co wrote “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll.” He killed and was a real nice guy, too. Didn’t mind taking photos and chatting with us, even after he got off stage soaked in sweat. Paul Collins was there and got up with us and sang ” Walking Out On Love” with us. Great end to our stay in NYC.
Sunday, Sept. 6: Cambridge, MA, woke up puking today; thinking it’s a combination of hangover, sleeping in the hot van last night, or maybe food poisoning. Whatever it is, I slept all day as much as I could while having to ask to pull over a few times to puke. Tried to sleep in the van most of the night behind the art gallery we were playing at until we played at 11:30 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 7: Day off today. Didn’t do much but get some laundry done. Still sick. Spent the rest of the day driving seven hours to Rochester. Got there about midnight. Drove around trying to find any place open for food, kept getting lost, everything’s closed, settled for 7 -Eleven.
