The Rocketboys – PRESHOW RITUALS

In this Preshow Rituals segment, the rock band, The Rocketboys, talks about what they do before every show. You can check out their rituals, after the break.

When we arrive at a venue, we’ll all sit there, in the van, in silence for 10 minutes while I make everybody listen to this random, new age, meditation I have on my phone. Then we all start chanting “rock & roll, rock & roll, ROCK & ROLL!”

Actually, it’s nothing like that. We’ll show up, load in, set up our merch and get ready for a sound check. Once we’ve sound checked, everybody kind of goes off and does their own thing for a bit. I like to try and find some sort of cool, local place to eat (it seems like every city has some sort of food that they’re known for), if they have a local IPA, even better. Once I get back to the venue, I try and just spend it quietly on my own. You kind of have to get into this mental space when you play every single night. It’s hard to just instantly go from being in a van for 6 hours to having the mentality of a performer on a stage, you know? I don’t really have a ritual that I do to get me into that headspace or anything, but sometimes I just need to get lost inside my head for a bit.
